In 1921 the Powell family opened, then Fairy Cave, now Talking Rocks Cavern and gave the first tours of this cave to the public. The Powell family thought this cave with its out of scale huge beautiful crystal formations would be perfect to inspire people, but it would be extremely hard work and expensive. They decided all of the work would be worth it if peoples’ hearts were inspired enough by their visit here to protect other natural wonders. Three generations of Powells served as stewards to this cave. Now three generations of Herschends are a part of carrying on the wonderful dedication and care for this irreplaceable natural wonder.
