When Truman Powell first set eyes on this discovery, he declared it to be the most amazing and uniquely decorated cave in America. There are thousands of beautiful natural living crystal cave formations of many different kinds, colors, and textures growing closely together!
Did you know that touring caves was one of the very first types of tourism in the Ozarks? From the early 1920's city folks would set out for the "hill country" in their "Model T's" on a bright spring day. Their destination? One of the many caves found beneath the rolling hills of the Ozarks. Climbing down wooden ladders, stepping along narrow paths, and led by local guides that held lanterns for light, these adventurous folk discovered beauty and a connection with nature long before the avent of eco-tourism. Today, folks walk down solid concrete steps along pathways that wind amid a vast array of incredible formations that are displayed to perfection by dramatic lighting. Kids can still enjoy playing the explorer... and take home the memory of an incredible family adventure they will remember for the rest of their lives. |
